If you’re looking for your next TV crime drama obsession, HBO’s “The Outsider” has all the goods. Based on the novel by Stephen King, this 10-episode miniseries separates itself from the pack by blending two genres — the procedural and Gothic horror. Think “True Detective” meets The Boogeyman. The pedigree behind the camera, which includes Jason Bateman and noted crime writer Richard Price, elevates the material into A-level territory. It should be stated that the show is deliberately paced, lacking some narrative drive, but the overall hook of this story is remarkably strong — and patient viewers will be rewarded.
