We want to remind our friends that we are doing The New York Antique Jewelry and Watch Show at the Metropolitan Pavilion located at 125 West 18th Street, from July 22nd to July 25th. The show opens at 1pm on Friday the 22nd and is open Saturday and Sunday from 11am until 7pm and on Monday from 11am—4pm. We hope to see you!
We have a very special pair of Van Cleef and Arpels earrings in coral, gold and diamonds for $14,500. We love these earrings.

It’s a good month for bracelets, and this white gold and diamond cuff is $16,500.

We have a spectacular pair of 40’s bracelets for $17,500 each. The one in white gold has diamonds and sapphires; the yellow gold one has diamonds and rubies.

We bought a beautiful Tiffany, Schlumberger black enamel bracelet with diamonds, which is $36,500, less than half the price if bought new.

We bought two terrific gold and diamond bracelets. The wider one is by Sterlé, the French designer, but was made in America. Sterlé did some of the most beautiful gold and diamond jewelry, although we think his platinum and diamond jewelry missed the mark. This bracelet has 12.50 carats of diamonds and is $24,500. The narrow one has 9.40 carats, is unsigned, and is $12,500. It is a beauty, too.

We got two great amethyst rings. The first is a pretty amethyst flanked by tsavorite garnets, and is $3250, by Paolo Costagli. The center one is a mega amethyst with peridots on the side, and is $3750. We also bought another Paolo Costagli ring with a fabulous colored green tourmaline flanked by tanzanites and diamonds set in platinum. It is $4750.

We got two great Seidengang rings. The band has peridots and chrome diopside and is $2250. The other is green tourmaline with little diamonds and is $3250.

We have three pretty pairs of diamond hoops. The textured gold and diamond oblong hoops are $5750. The smaller pair in yellow gold is $1750. The last pair in white gold and pave diamonds is $7750. All of these earrings really make a statement.

We bought two pretty pairs of chalcedony earrings. The first pair, by Seaman Scheppes, is in white gold trimmed in sapphires and diamonds and is $5250. The second pair, stars in yellow gold trimmed with rubies, are by Schlumberger, and are $5750.

It was a good month for necklaces. The baroque pearl and gold chain necklace is a big look for $1250. The turquoise necklace with gold is also $1250. The baroque south sea pearl necklace has a diamond ball clasp and is $12,500.

We like brown. The faux tortoise shell earrings were designed by Marcella and are $450 . The watch necklace is in tigers eye and gold and is $6750. The honey chalcedony and gold earrings are $2250.

Wooden jewelry is always chic. We have a bracelet and two rings designed by Ashley, and a pair of earrings designed by Marcella. The wood and gold ring with diamond stars is $1650. The larger one, scalloped in gold, is also $1650. The cuff has a cross hatch design in gold and is $2250. The painted wood earrings are $650.

INTERVIEW Magazine June/July 2011

QUEST Magazine SPRING ISSUE 2011

It’s Street Fair season again. Besides the usual delicious corn and kebabs, there’s a man who sells orchids and other plants. The orchids are fabulous and priced at $12, $15, and $29, depending on the number of stems. They are top quality and he has beautiful colors. His other plants are also nice. I’ve gotten into plants lately, even African violets like my mother. I remember Mama’s as fabulous on glass shelves in the breakfast room, although Harriett says she wasn’t so lucky with them. I have two that just keep blooming and I bought two more in rose red and lavender. I even got special fertilizer that my sister recommended. I think it may be a Southern thing, as they are not so easy to find here.
We'd like to recommend L'Absinthe again. It's on 67th Street between 2nd & 3rd Avenues. We are very lucky to have such a good French restaurant in the neighborhood. Call for a reservation (212) 794-4950.
We thought you would be interested in the article on Rita Jammet’s champagne that appeared in the New York Times titled A Play Date with Champagne and Burgers. Jean and I loved La Caravelle, it was our special occasion restaurant. The champagne is marvelous. My C200 focus group also met at La Caravelle and we miss it terribly!
Knoll Textiles, 1945-2010
I was lucky enough to be able to attend the opening of the Knoll Textiles exhibit at the Bard Graduate Center. The Bard Graduate Center is a wonderful school here in New York City, founded by our good friend, Susan Weber, where students can earn degrees in Design History and Decorative Arts. Most people know Knoll primarily for their furniture design, but this exhibit highlights their work in textile design from the company’s founding to the present. It is displayed in chronological order in a beautiful townhouse, with each floor representing a different time period. My personal favorite was the Campagna fabric, originally designed by Angelo Testa in 1951 and reintroduced in 1997. I love jewelry from the 1950s so it was no surprise that I would love a fabric from the same decade!
Knoll Textiles, 1945-1950 runs until July 31st at the Bard Graduate Center at the BGC Gallery, 18 West 86th Street. I would recommend this to anyone interested in interior and textile design! Our good friend Lynn Utter is President of Knoll.
I recently saw Woody Allen's new film, Midnight in Paris. Owen Wilson is a young man in Paris who finds himself going back in time and meeting Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald, Hemingway, Picasso, Toulouse-Lautrec, etc. Paris is gorgeous, but I had a hard time with the premise, similar to my problem with science fiction. I just can't believe.
I saw Beginners this weekend and I liked it very much. Christopher Plummer at 80 plays a 75 year-old museum director whose wife of 40 years has just died of cancer. He decides to come out as gay and tells his son, wonderfully played by Ewan McGregor. The biggest surprise for me was that Plummer's boyfriend was played by Goran Visnjic, a Croation actor who was the hunky foreign doctor on ER who married Abby. I adored him and am pleased to know that he will play the head of Milton Security in the American version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Beginners is a lovely movie, and has a precious little Jack Russell called Arthur.
I went to see Tree of Life, the new Brad Pitt movie that won the Palme d’or in Cannes as best film. It was awful and for the first time in a long while I walked out as did my movie buddy Iris. It is a long movie and I could not sit through this pretentious film for one more minute. Give it a miss.
If you didn't watch The Good Wife on CBS at 10 on Tuesday evening, you must watch the reruns this summer. I watched one that I had seen the other night and was glued to the set. This is a really great program and Julianna Margulies is spectacular as Alicia Florick and the law firm in house operative Kalinda played by Archie Panjabi is my absolute favorite character in many years. She won an Emmy last year for Best Supporting Actress.
I was so pleased to read that AMC's new drama, The Killing, was renewed for next year. The series, which is set in Seattle and based on a successful Danish show, follows Detective Sarah Linden through one murder case for 13 episodes. She is played by Mireille Enos, who is deservedly being talked about as a possible Emmy winner. She is spectacular. You should try to catch this show on reruns this summer.
I read a wonderful book this weekend and it’s not a mystery or a cop novel. It is my other favorite category, World War II. It is a debut novel by Amanda Hodgkinson called 22 Britannia Road. It is the story of a Polish couple and their small son who are separated by the exigencies of war for six years, only to reunite in England and cope with their conduct during the war. It is a lovely book and I could not put it down.
We have to brag again. The Wall Street Journal, the New the New York Times, and numerous other papers and magazines are all raving about Jo Nesbo, and especially his latest, The Snowman. You have heard me rave about him for the last year. I was really prescient about this one and I say it again... you must read him.
Alex and I both recently got the same bright red silk jacket at J. Crew. It is a perfect jacket for brooches and works well on a young girl like Alex and an old girl like me. I saw it on her and had to have it. That’s the great thing about J. Crew; it works for many people.
I recently went to the annual luncheon for The Bottomless Closet, an organization that dresses women re-entering the work force and coaches them on interview techniques and resume writing. They are always looking for volunteers, so call 212 563 2499, if you can help. It was started by our friend Reeva Wurtzburger and has many friends on the board.
