GOLDEN GLOBES

We were thrilled that Julianne Moore carried our Bulgari minaudière at the Golden Globes and was photographed carrying it. She and it looked fabulous.

BULGARI SHOW

As we mentioned before, it is Bulgari's anniversary year, and the show in Italy was a big success.  The show in Paris was also a big success with over 110,000 people in a month.  There were lines outside the Grand Palais.  As a result, the show is now going to Beijing and Shanghai.

BULGARI  JEWELRY

We have a gold, hematite and diamond Bulgari Parentesi necklace and earrings at

$22,500 and $7750 respectively and we think it's a good time to own them.

BULGARI EARRINGS

We have two great pairs of Bulgari earrings.  The first is in gold, lapis and diamonds and is $5750.  The gold and diamond ones are $4750.

BRACELETS

We have three great gold bracelets this month.  All are 18 karat yellow gold and none are signed, although they are beautifully made.  The first is a textured link bracelet and looks as if it could be Hermes and is $4250.  Next, A Gucci style horse bit link bracelet is

$2250.  Lastly, this one has oval links, with one link in pave diamonds.  It is a dream, and can stand alone or be mixed with others.  I adore this bracelet and it is $5750.  This is a bonanza bracelet month.

EARCLIPS

We have two pairs of earrings with a fruit theme in gold and diamonds, both by Boucheron.  The pears are $6250.  The grapes are slightly pinkish and are $7500.  This pair has a left and a right which curve into the face.

ONYX & DIAMOND

In onyx, gold and diamonds we've got a cuff and a ring.  The previous gold and diamond Bulgari earrings would work with these.  The black onyx and diamond cuff was designed by Marcella, and is $5500.  The ring was found by Gus and is a steal at $3250.

MALTESE CROSS

The Maltese cross is always a good look and this one in 18 karat gold with emeralds and diamonds is by Van Cleef & Arpels.  It can be worn as a pin or a pendant as it has fittings for both.  It is $6750.

THREE FABULOUS PIECES

We love snake necklaces and this is a beauty.  It is gold, with a ruby and diamond head for $9750.  We also love ivory and this ivory elephant pendant with stones and gold at $350 qualifies as bargain of the month.   Then, Marcella has done a cream shagreen cuff with a diamond Maltese cross for $6500.

GOLD AND DIAMOND

More gold and diamonds.  A matte gold and diamond pair of earrings that curl into the face by Angela Cummings are $4750.  A gold and diamond bracelet that sort of makes a cuff for $2250 is a big look for the money.  A small pair of gold and diamond earrings for $2750, a big bang for the buck.

CIPULLO

We bought a fabulous Aldo Cipullo cuff bracelet in gold and tiger's eye. This is $10,500 and as we stated earlier, this is a great bracelet month.

TURQUOISE

We love turquoise and have three pretty examples this month.  This cute little dog brooch is only $1650.  The watch by Jaeger Le Coultre is a backwind and has a very tiny face that I can actually read with my glasses on.  It is $9750.  The ring is a size 7 1/2 and can be made a little bit smaller by adding some shots.  It is by Irena Borzema Ustjanowski, a Polish born American sculptor and jewelry designer.  This is a very chic ring for $2350.

ANGELA CUMMINGS

This necklace by Angela Cummings was inspired by the orchids in her greenhouse.  The mother of pearl was carved by Jonas Chu in China, one of the legendary carvers of this type.  The necklace was probably one of very few made.  It sits like a dream, and is $27,500.

TO DINE

We went to a relatively new restaurant in West Palm Beach recently, Pistache, and thought it was terrific. French friends said it was the best French restaurant in the area and we agree.  The owner is from Bordeaux and the cook is from San Tropez. It is located at 101 N. Clematis, close to the water at Flagler.   I loved my beet salad and Jean loved his onion soup.

TO SHOP

I have cheated on Lancôme again with successful results. VOLUMINOUS mascara by L'Oreal is a keeper. It has a curved brush and both lengthens and thickens without the dreaded clumping. I bought this at Walgreen's.

During Christmas I went to a party and noticed the eye makeup of a very attractive woman. I didn't know her well enough to inquire directly so I improvised.  She had a slight iridescent line of color underneath her eyeliner so I bought a chunky soft pencil by Idol Eyes in creme132 envy.  It is a greenish color and quite lovely.

TO SEE

I just saw The Fighter right before the Golden Globes.  Lucky me as Christian Bale and Melissa Leo won the best supporting awards for their portrayals of the repellant brother and mother of fighter Mickey Ward, played by Mark Wahlberg.   This film is based on a true story. They obviously did a great job in this excellent movie as you absolutely loathed both of them as well as the six dreadful sisters. This is a must-see film and really shows the horrible side of boxing.

We went to see Wicked this week, surely the last people to do so.  If you haven't seen it there's a reason it has played so long, it's a lot of fun and wonderfully cast.  The Gershwin Theatre also does something we had not encountered before, they have special rear orchestra seat for the handicapped at a reduced price.  There is an elevator and a special bathroom.  Alas, Wicked is such a success that it will probably play for a while, so there will be no new show here.  We heard a rumor during intermission that Reese Witherspoon is considering playing Glinda.  She would be perfect if she can sing.

We recently saw the Addams Family with Nathan Lane.  One of the producers is Roy Furman, my old business partner.  While the show got terrible reviews, it is doing very well and the audience loved it.  Jean had no idea who the Addams Family was but he had a good time too.  This is a great family musical that all can enjoy.

TO WATCH

There are always new television shows in January and there are three we'd like to mention.  Harry's Law with Kathy Bates on Monday at 10pm on CBS.  She was a high powered patent lawyer in Cincinnati, who moves to the ghetto to practice criminal law.  I've seen a few episodes and like it a lot.  The other one is Off the Map on Wednesday at 10pm on ABC.  This takes place in an unnamed South American country in a medical clinic, and features three young doctors who have chosen to go there for various not entirely altruistic reasons.  PBS's Masterpiece Classic has a new multipart series called Downton Abbey which is sort of an Upstairs Downstairs in Edwardian times.  The clothes and jewelry are wonderful as is the story.  You can buy it on PBS.  This is on Sunday at 9pm and has already been a big hit in Britain.

TO READ

I am enjoying a new book series by Jeanne M. Dams about Hilda Johansson, a Swede who was once a housemaid to a wealthy family in South Bend, Indiana and is now married to a well-to-do Irishman.  She solves mysteries through her various contacts.  I just finished Indigo Christmas where she is already married and I plan to go back.

I just finished the thirteenth Inspector Ian Rutledge novel by Charles Todd, A Lonely Death, by a mother and son team who live in Delaware and North Carolina, respectively.  Rutledge is a WW1 veteran who works at Scotland Yard, and is still haunted by the demons of the war.  The details of the Great War and English life are so realistic you'd never believe the authors were American.  The Yard is called into an English village when three seemingly unrelated men are garroted.  This is another great Rutledge novel.

TO INVESTIGATE

A friend of ours, Betsy Wills, has started an art blog called ARTSTORMER. It is very interesting and you can subscribe so you get the latest postings.  I am enjoying it very much.  The artists she features are ones you probably don't know.

TO VISIT

We wanted to go to the Spanish Institute at 68th & Park Avenue to see the Balenciaga exhibit curated by Hamish Bowles, but were stymied by getting in.  Marcella went and she says it is spectacular.  She plans to go again with me as there are elevators once you get in.   This show runs until February 19th and I urge you to go see it.
