With the predicted snow in New York, we're having trouble getting out to Palm Beach, but we'll be there at some point. We are looking forward to warmer weather, and this show is a fun one for us. Be sure to check out the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue as we have a piece on the cover.

Rebecca Koven is a talented Canadian jewelry designer who lives in New York. We have had her things from time to time and always find them interesting. Here are a few of her latest creations.
These are Rebecca's portrait diamond necklaces with thin slivers of rough cut diamonds set in 18k gold. The one on the left has 23.58 carats of diamonds, the one on the right has 21.5 carats. The next necklace is mixed agates and 18k gold. The last one is quartz, peridots, tourmalines, carnelians, and sapphires in 18k gold. |

Her rings are all statement pieces. The big 18k one is all gold. The next is a saddle ring but instead of jade it has a black hard stone set with rose cut diamonds with an 18k shank. The next is a large moonstone set with diamonds on the 18k band. The last is an 18k ring with a very machine-like/industrial feel to it.

The big earrings on the left are silver and diamonds and make quite a statement. The hoops are 18k gold with little diamond flowers and we love this look. The third pair are 18k gold hoops studded with diamonds with a diamond oval suspended on a diamond bar in the center hanging from another diamond oval on a wire.

A platinum and diamond Edwardian pendant necklace, in the garland style with two facing doves. This is a necklace year and this one is a beauty.

We are very lucky as Gus found two beautiful diamond Deco bracelets:
- Left - this bracelet has about 16.5 carats but looks like more as it is densely set.
- Right - this bracelet has an openwork pattern and has 7.5 carats approximately.
They are both are about 3/8 inches wide and set in platinum.

Three great rings:
- [26R252] An 18k gold and diamond ring, designed as two rows of diamonds (approx. 1.50 carats) intersecting the flat gold top of the ring.
- [26R253] An 18k gold ring with a square cut aqua in a braided setting, and while unsigned, it has the feeling of Schlumberger.
- [26R251] An 18k gold and bone ring, designed as interlocking pieces of gold and carved bone.

The dress, the veil, the hair and makeup all of these components together form the perfect bride. Yet, there is nothing as beautiful as that natural bridal glow! I have realized that nothing illuminates or transforms the look of a bride better than a pair of earrings. They draw the audiences eye to the brides face and keep it there, in essence framing the glow. They can take a very simple gown and add sophistication and sparkle or they can take a complex gown and add just a hint of sparkle so as not to take away from the dramatic effect of the overall look. Earrings are also a wonderful bridal gift from the groom.
I have found that more and more brides are requesting custom designed earrings because they cannot find what they want, and they have an idea of the look they would like to achieve. Brides don’t want a simple pair of pearl cluster earrings, they want earrings that are sophisticated yet sparkly and a piece that they will wear beyond their wedding day. I designed a pair of earrings for my sister in law that were diamond studs that suspended a drop shaped pearl set atop with another diamond. The wonderful thing is that the bottoms were removable and she could wear the studs every day, which her husband was very happy about!
The two pictures here are of two very different designs but for two very different weddings. The blue topaz and diamonds were for a New York winter wedding. The brides dress was white satin and very simple. These brought the dress to another level of elegance. The mother of pearl pair were designed for a bride who was wearing a lacy dress that she was going to layer with Victorian chains from her grandmother. She wanted a pair of earrings that would enhance the look of the necklaces but would soften them as well. I thought a mother of pearl drop (I love mother of pearl) would accent the ivory of the dress and the added diamonds would lighten up the gold of the chains. As you can see a very simple design but on the ear they just popped!
Why not on your wedding day deck yourself in earrings that make you feel like a queen after all it is the one day that you can rightfully call, your day.

Congratulations to the Vanderbilt men's basketball team who are 18-5 with only two SEC losses, one to Kentucky at Rupp Arena. Vanderbilt is ranked 22 in the nation and has beaten our arch rival Tennessee at Tennessee, and at Vanderbilt. I can't wait for March madness.
I went to stock up on my favorite cleanser by Patricia Wexler M.D., another product I keep coming back to. It is only sold at Bath and Body Works and I always buy other things too. The problem is that once you get attached to a fragrance they are off to the next one and the old one is discontinued. I quite liked the Vanilla Fig Body Cream (and I use a lot this winter as I am as dry as a prune) only to find it was no more on my last trip. I got Twilight Woods instead and just hope it is OK. Anyway their house fragrances are always on special so it wasn't too dear.

This past Christmas we received the most beautiful gift basket from our very dear friends and clients, the Mallons. It was a big beautiful basket filled with all sorts of goodies like hot chocolate, candy, strawberry jam, biscotti etc. When we saw Laura Jean shortly after that, we thanked her and told her how amazing the basket was. She explained to us that it came from a wonderful place in Mt. Kisco called Connie's Bakery & General Store(866.926.6643). Connie's likes to use fresh ingredients obtained by local farmers in their bakery and sell goods in the general store produced by local craftsmen and artists. If you are ever in the need to send a gift basket you should call Connie and they will customize any basket for any occasion. Connie's is a special place because they produce and sell homemade baked goods and 100% of their profits go to charity. They have a foundation called "Foundation Sweet Success" and 6 non profit organizations are selected each year as Connie's charitable partners and all of the profits are split equally between them. They are truly incredible!
I have recommended before the Norwegian Jo Nesbo's The Redbreast and Nemesis featuring the very likable Harry Hole, a policeman who constantly struggles with his alcoholism. I am now on the third one, The Devil's Star which was published in English only in England but can be gotten through Amazon. I've got the fourth one, The Redeemer waiting. These are police procedurals, not mysteries, and you get to know the characters intimately. Harry is still struggling with his nemesis, Inspector Tom Waaler as they search for a serial killer, rare in Oslo. This is the kind of book where you only have to read 10 pages before knowing it is going to be spectacular. I love Harry and I love these books and you will too. Jo Nesbo is right up there with Henning Mankell and Steig Larsson. Trust me, you have to get these books.
A book I loved and previously recommended, Cutting for Stone by Abraham Vergheser has just come out in paperback and I urge you to read it. It is a medical novel taking place from India to Africa to America and is a wonderful book. If you like my other recommendations, you will love this book.
I just saw Crazy Heart with Jeff Bridges and it was wonderful. This movie does not cheer you up so be prepared. Maggie Gyllenhaal was wonderful too. Jeff gave a fabulous performance and will give my favorite, George Clooney, some stiff competition for the best actor Oscar.
I finally broke down and saw Avatar with two girlfriends. People I respect had liked it and with the Academy Awards coming I thought I should go. It was a big disappointment. It was too long by at least one hour and I just didn't get it. The Avatar leads were absolutely gorgeous looking and I liked the love story and the fact that the "good guys" won. As I said I just didn't get it and neither did my friends. Perhaps we are too old.
Noel has aptly titled this "School Photo". Bugsy, Noel's cat is on the left and has had a fresh shave to get out the knots. Isn't his mustache charming? Marcella's Silvia is on the right, enjoying being with her cousin Bugsy while Marcella is in Europe. She is fully recovered from her dental surgery. Are those the best ears ever? You can see Abba with me in the 1STDIBS spread, but the photo was taken during the summer.
